Biurko Pamiętające / Remembering Desk

Biurko Pamiętające zainspirowane jest zdjęciem biurka mojej prababci – drewnianym, przykrytym szybą, między nimi znajdowały się zdjęcia, na wierzchu leżały książki. Blat mojego biurka to przekrój przez warstwy materiałów na biurku prababci. Czyli warstwy, które były poziomo, obróciłam do pionu.

Wszystkie te przedmioty przecinają powierzchnię blatu, stanowiąc jego integralną część, płaszczyznę. Równa powierzchnia obrazuje pewną ciszę, w przeciwieństwie do ostrego i agresywnego świata poniżej blatu – tworzą je wystające szkło, książki, ołówki itd. To, co na powierzchni blatu, ma charakter raczej graficzny, dwuwymiarowy. Podczas procesu użytkowania i dostawiania rzeczy codziennego użytku biurko cały czas rośnie, a te warstwy materiałów narastają. I 2D wyrasta w 3D. Szkło pomiędzy deskami staje się szklanką, którą można umieścić w specjalnym otworze, „zamurowane” w blacie książki stają się książkami, które można oprzeć o podpórki, które wyrastają z desek blatu. Deski stają się także nogami biurka.

Wszystkie te przedmioty w stole umieszczone są wertykalnie. Dla przypomnienia tego, co było na początku, pozostało jednak miejsce na kwadratowe poziome szybki, między które można wstawić zdjęcie. Jest to też „okno” między tym co dawniej, a tym co teraz – oryginalnym biurkiem prababci, a nowym biurkiem zaprojektowanym przeze mnie.

 

My inspiration to this project was a photo of my great-grand mothers desk. This desk is made of wood, covered by glass. Between desk and glass there are the photos, on the glass there are books. I made a cross-section of this desk and objects (different materials) and used it as a top surface of new desk.

These objects cross the top and become flat, all the materials are the part of the same surface. It makes it quiet. Different world is under the table-top, it’s sharp and agresive, because all of this objects stick out. All the books, pencil, glass are visible. These different materials, which are flat (2 dimensional) at the top become 3 dimensional objects: glass between boards becomes glass, which you can put into special place, wood becomes legs, 2 of the boards go up and become bookends, books inside the table become books which you can put on the table or lean of bookends and pencil becomes pencils, which you can put into small holes like pierceing the table. In this way user can take part in building this desk by adding more of layers of this materials.

All the objects inside the desk are vertical. To remind the past and the original desk, which was an inspiration, I made a small place with the flat, horizontal glass squares. You can put the photo between them. It’s also a window between past and present and between this two different and contrasting worlds on and under the top.
