Papierowe żonkile zaprojektowałam dla Muzeum Historii Żydów Polskich na obchody 70. Rocznicy Powstania w Getcie Warszawskim. Przypięte do ubrania stanowiły wyraz solidarności i pamięci o tragicznym powstaniu i jego bohaterach. Żonkile rozdawane były na ulicach Warszawy oraz innych miast i krajów. Dostępne były także w formie szablonów do pobrania na stronie Muzeum, na podstawie których każdy sam mógł zrobić swojego żonkila. Żonkil ma symbolizować pamięć. Przez wiele lat Marek Edelman w rocznicę wybuchu powstania dostawał od anonimowego nadawcy bukiet żonkili na znak pamięci. Później sam zaczął składać bukiet tych kwiatów pod pomnikiem Bohaterów Getta. Akcja „Żonkil” stanowi pewnego rodzaju kontynuację tego gestu, pamięci.

The paper daffodils were designed for the Museum of The History of Polish Jews for the 70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising celebrations. The daffodils were distributed in Poland and abroad. They were available also as templates on the website of the Museum, so everyone could make them by himself.
The daffodils symbolize memory. For a long time, every year Marek Edelman, the last surviving leader of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, used to get a bunch of daffodils from an anonymous person. Edelman decided to bring these flowers to the Monument of the Ghetto Heroes. The action “daffodil” is a kind of continuation of that gesture, a memory.
